A SUMMARY.

Some few years before World War II, Japan had invaded China, and Germany had invaded Poland. Germany continued with the invasion of other European Countries and Japan was in quest of the islands and countries in the Pacific. Before the United States entered the conflict, Italy and a few other smaller countries, either voluntary or involuntary, had joined forces with Germany and Japan. This group became known as the "Axis" and the opposing forces were the "Allies". Some will say that World War II was just a continuation of World War I and it may very well have been. World War II resulted in the deaths of over 70 million people, making it the deadliest conflict in human history.

The conflict ended in an Allied victory. As a result, the United States and Soviet Union emerged as the world's two leading superpowers, setting the stage for the Cold War for the next 45 years. Most of the European countries continued to stay together and the previous invading countries joined to form an united Europe. Meanwhile the countries of Asia and Africa headed in the opposite direction and tended to decolonize.

With a World War in progress, many soldiers were needed for the United States Military and each local draft board was kept busy trying to fill the need of our nation. In many instances, every male, from individual families, was drafted and served in the Armed Forces during this period of time. The Fulkerson family of Echols, Kentucky is just another example of this condition imposed on area families. There were many more families that provided all of their men for this just cause, but will keep this web page on the Fulkerson family. James D. Robinson was a cousin to the Fulkerson brothers and I have included him in the web page.

Pictured-Bottom Right: James DeWitt Robinson was born in Ohio County and the son of James Frank and Maggie Robinson. He was drafted in the Army in 1945 and served stateside for sixteen months. He earned an honorable discharge and returned to Ohio County as a hero. Thanks James, for your service to our country.

Thomas King Fulkerson and Ollie Fulkerson were residents of the Echols area. They raised three sons that served in World War II. They were Thomas Carl Fulkerson, Cecil Fulkerson and Kenneth Fulkerson. Thanks to you three brothers, for your help to Uncle Sam, when you were asked to serve.

Pictured-Top Right: I never knew Cecil Fulkerson. He was drafted into the service during World War II and honorably served his country. He was in the Army Infantry and was sent to Europe during the war. After the war, he returned to the Echols area as a hero. I will update this paragraph if and when other information becomes available.

Pictured Bottom Left: Kenneth Fulkerson, like his two brothers was drafted into the service during World War II. He served in the Army Air Force and returned as a hero when the war was over. Kenneth served in Europe during World War II. I do not have very much information on Kenneth and would gladly update and/or add any information that I receive.

Pictured Top Left; I did not get to know Carl Fulkerson until Carl approached retirement time. Carl worked several different jobs until he found the one that he liked. He worked for the Tennessee Valley Authority, at the Paradise Steam Plant. Carl retired from TVA and settled into his retirement home with his wife, Lorene. They enjoyed the retirement years in their home on Fulkerson Lane, near Echols. For a more complete write-up of Carl, please click on the following link to visit his web page.

Subject: HONOR!

A veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve -

is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a blank check made

payable to "The United States of America, " for an amount of "up to

and including my life."

-- Author Unknown--

*****

That is Honor, and there are way too many people in this country

who no longer understand it.

See you......
