Christine Hill Chapman is very proud of her brother Mort Hill and of his service to our country. On November 21, 1941, at age 27, Morton Hill entered the U. S. Army. He served his country a total of 3 years, 10 months and 29 days. He was a Pvt. for 3 months, a PFC, for 18 and 1/2 months, and a CPL, for 15 months. He received 8 weeks of training in South Carolina. From there he went to Oakland, California, then to New Zealand, and then to Fiji Island for jungle training. After that he went to Guadalcanal, then New Georgia Island, and back to Oakland, California. He was then assigned to Opelika, Alabama, for 15 months, where he served as a guard at a prisoner of war camp. On October 19, 1945, four weeks after being transferred to Fort McPherson, Georgia, he was released from the U. S. Army. He had served as an infantry man, a rifleman, and as a military police. He received three medals, the American Defense Service Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal with one Bronze Star, and a Good Conduct Medal.

Morton Hill is married to Jessie Phelps Brown. They live in Echols, KY. Jessie has six children. Mort and Jessie enjoy their 16 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 2 great great-grandchildren.

The proceeding paragraphs about Mort Hill and his photograph were taken from "Our Heroes Forever" booklet that was composed by Shirley Fulkerson Barnes and Delona Smiley Fulkerson. "Our Heroes Forever" is a Pond Run Baptist Church production in honor of the local heroes of the Armed Forces. The actual production date of the pamphlet is unknown to me, but would guess it to be in the time frame of 2002. Thanks you two.

...... Thanks Mort for your service to our country.
